
SJGC Dean Mira Lowe and several students were invited to Washington, D.C. to attend the launch of the Center for Journalism & Democracy at Howard University in November 2022. During the launch, known as the “Democracy Summit”, journalists, educators, students, media-industry leaders attended networked and attended sessions about media’s role in democracy, propaganda, the Black press, and more.

SJGC students Jaela Davis, Adrian Murray, and Tiffany DeLong were selected by Associate Professor Dr. Bettye Grable to attend the launch.
The Center for Journalism & Democracy at Howard University is the first-of-its-kind academic center committed to strengthening historically-informed, pro-democracy journalism. The Center is led by founder Nikole Hannah-Jones, the Knight Chair in Race and Journalism.
