WANM 90.5 “The Flava” Wins Three Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Awards

The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) announced the winners of the 2022-2023 IBS Media Awards for college students. Talented radio personalities from Florida A&M University’s School of Journalism & Graphic Communication student-run radio station WANM-FM 90.5 “The Flava” took home several awards. 

The prestigious awards recognize outstanding achievements in various categories of media production and management. 

Skyler Boone, a spring 2023 SJGC graduate, won Best News Director in the Radio category. Boone was awarded this honor based on her exceptional leadership and commitment to delivering quality news content has earned her this distinguished honor.  Her unwavering dedication to her craft sets an exemplary standard for aspiring news directors.

Senior journalism student Ahmad Kebe was recognized as a finalist in the Best Sports Interview category. Kebe’s thought-provoking interview titled “The Playmakers & The New AD” captivated audiences with its insightful analysis and engaging content. Kebe’s ability to extract compelling narratives from his interviewees showcases his prowess as an emerging sports journalist.

In the Best Line/Sweeper category, Florida A&M University was acknowledged for its exceptional creativity and production skills. The entry titled “Radio Big Mack Drop” by WANM-FM 90.5 “The Flava” was named as a finalist. Darryl Lewis, a 2022 SJGC public relations graduate and Skyler Boone were both recognized for their efforts as producers on the show.

Winners were announced during the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System’s annual conference in New York City at the Sheraton Times Square on Saturday, February 25.
