Project 68 (P68) is partnering with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to launch HBCU Impact Hubs, on-campus, student-led media and content labs developing the next generation of culturally fluent storytellers, creators, and civic leaders.
Each Impact Hub operates as a paid fellowship program, giving students professional mentorship, hands-on content production experience, and national distribution opportunities — while amplifying authentic campus and community narratives. The initiative is designed to integrate into existing university infrastructure while remaining externally funded and managed in partnership with Project 68.
Today’s students engage with information through peer networks, creators, and culturally trusted voices, not traditional media or institutional channels. HBCUs have long produced leaders across culture, politics, and innovation, yet a growing gap persists between civic institutions and the storytelling formats that resonate with students and young audiences today. P68’s HBCU Impact Hubs close that gap through:
- Talent Development — building pathways for emerging storytellers, journalists, creators, and communicators through mentorship, training, paid opportunities, and professional exposure.
- Content Production & Narrative Influence — producing culturally grounded storytelling that reflects the lived experiences, concerns, culture, and aspirations of our communities.
- Distribution & Amplification — building systems that move trusted voices and authentic narratives beyond campus, connecting creators to broader media, cultural, and civic ecosystems.
- Institutional Infrastructure — establishing sustainable, campus-based communications ecosystems that link student media, creators, faculty, and institutional partners into lasting narrative infrastructure.
Program Components
- Student Creator Cohort — 4–8 paid student creators per campus
- Paid Monthly Stipend — $2,000–$4,000 per month, based on placement
- Program Staffing — a dedicated P68 Program Manager plus on-campus support staff
- Content Production — weekly short-form and long-form digital content
- Training & Mentorship — monthly sessions with media and industry professionals
- Distribution — content amplified through Project 68’s national platforms and partner channels, with additional reach through creators’ own audiences
Selection Process
Student creators are selected through a joint review process led by a Selection Committee composed of representatives from FAMU (School of Journalism & Graphic Communication) and Project 68. The Committee evaluates applicants against program eligibility criteria, reviews submitted materials, and makes final cohort selections in partnership — ensuring FAMU retains institutional oversight of student selection while P68 contributes creator-industry and program expertise to the review.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants will be considered across three creator tiers based on their current social media following:
- Nano Creators: 1,000–10,000 followers
- Micro Creators: 10,000–100,000 followers
- Macro Creators: 100,000+ followers
Applicants should demonstrate an established presence as a digital creator and an ability to develop engaging, original content for digital audiences.
Applicants must:
- Be a current junior or senior enrolled as a student at FAMU’s School of Journalism & Graphic Communication.
- Demonstrate an active presence as a digital content creator.
- Fall within one of the three creator tiers based on current audience size.
- Demonstrate the ability to consistently produce high-quality short-form and/or long-form digital content.
- Be available to participate in required program activities, including content production, training, mentorship, and related program engagements.
- Be willing to represent FAMU and Project 68 professionally through their content and participation in the program.
Note: Macro creators are eligible to apply but are not required for the cohort.

Electronic Recommendation
One electronic recommendation is required from a current faculty member or instructor.
- The faculty member or instructor must complete the SJGC x Project 68 Recommendation Form directly. Applicants should not upload a recommendation letter.
- Applicants are responsible for requesting the recommendation and ensuring it is submitted by the application deadline.
