FAMU’s School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (FAMU SJGC) is thrilled to announce that three public relations students were selected to attend the Myra Blackmon AdPR Academy for Diversity and Inclusion, hosted by the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication in Atlanta, GA on October 25-29, 2023.

FAMU SJGC scholars Alise Sloan, Leah Sinclair, and Jarvis Coleman joined 30 other university students from across the Southeast for the seventh AdPR cohort.

Throughout the four day academy, students received training from advertising and public relations experts, networked with industry professionals, and competed in teams representing real-life clients for cash prizes.

“Thank you to all the professionals who took the time to speak with us,” wrote junior public relations student Leah Sinclair in a LinkedIn post. “Your advice and insights have clarified and inspired my path within public relations and advertising.”

Sinclair and her teammates earned first place in the AdPR competition.

Junior public relations student Jarvis Coleman also had a rewarding experience during the academy as he received the UGA AdPR Academy Vision Award.

“It was an eye-opening experience,” says Coleman. “I now have a better understanding of public relations and what my career options could be between PR and advertising.”
