Florida A&M University (FAMU) School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (SJGC) student Alise Sloan recently shared insights on her personal and professional growth in a blog post published on the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) website. In the post, Sloan highlighted the transformative impact that the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) has had on her life, demonstrating that the benefits of the organization go beyond professional development.

Sloan, a senior majoring in public relations, credited PRSSA with helping her build critical networking skills, develop her leadership abilities, and enhance her understanding of the public relations field. She also emphasized PRSSA has provided her with a sense of community and personal support.

‘ “The opportunities to connect with industry leaders, collaborate with like-minded peers, and get direct experience have been an incredible journey,” she wrote. “It’s not just a student organization; it’s a launchpad for my career and a support system that has empowered me every step of the way.” ‘

Through her involvement, Sloan has had opportunities to participate in national conferences, collaborate with peers on real-world projects, and gain mentorship from seasoned industry professionals.

Sloan is currently co-president of FAMU’s PRSSA. In her blog post she encouraged other PR students to join PRSSA and leverage the opportunities available to members. Sloan also shared PRSSA’s influence extends beyond academics and helps guide the professional and personal goals of its members.

As detailed on its website, PRSA is the leading professional organization serving the communications community through a network of more than 400 professional and student chapters in the United States, Argentina, Colombia, Peru and Puerto Rico.

Founded in 1967, PRSSA is the foremost organization for students interested in public relations and communications. Since its founding, PRSSA has served its membership by offering educational programs, resources, scholarships and mentorship opportunities that prepare students for a successful career in communications.
