Broadcast journalism alumnus Roy Wood, Jr., has been named the host of CNN’s latest original series, Have I Got News For You, which premiered on September 14. The American version of the long-running BBC series brings a fresh take on current events, blending humor and insightful commentary in a late-night format. The 10 episode limited series airs on Saturdays at 9 p.m. ET and is available to stream the following day on Max.
Wood, widely known for his role as a correspondent on The Daily Show, is a graduate of the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (SJGC) at Florida A&M University (FAMU). His sharp wit and incisive humor have made him a standout in political satire, and his new hosting role marks another milestone in his growing career.
True to his comedic nature, Wood sarcastically expressed his pleasure in hosting the show.
‘ “It is an honor to be a part of such a hallowed British institution to help make sense of the American institutions of chaos, name calling, disinformation, reality television and the 8-hour news cycle,” ‘ he said.
Produced by Hat Trick Productions, Have I Got News For You is the latest British program to invade the American airwaves. According to CNN, the comedy panel series “delivers comic observations, from the satirical to the surreal, through the lens of a news quiz show that tests the knowledge of rotating collection of guests including notable entertainers, political figures and comedians.”
In addition to being a successful comedian, Roy Wood, Jr., is an Emmy-nominated documentary producer and WGA nominated writer. He previously served eight years as a correspondent on Comedy Central’s Emmy-winning program, The Daily Show.
In 2023, Wood headlined the White House Correspondents’ Dinner to its highest ratings since 2017. Wood will appear alongside Keanu Reeves and Jonah Hill in the upcoming AppleTV comedy Outcome and recently partnered with Crown Publishing to pen a memoir, The Man of Many Fathers, which is scheduled to be released in 2025.
