It’s great to see our alumni succeed and it’s always nice to see young graduates getting their start within the industry. Sterling Bright, a recent graduate of Florida A&M University and the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication recently joined MLB.com as a reporter for the 2021 Major League Baseball Season.

Bright is from Atlanta, Ga and joined the MLB team prior to the start of their season in March. Since then he has had the chance of covering several teams including Florida’s own Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals, and his hometown Atlanta Braves. Due to COVID-19 changing the way we watch sports it has also changed the day to day routine for journalists, causing several teams to conduct press conferences and player/coach media availability via zoom. Due to the pandemic Bright has been tasked with covering teams along the East Coast especially in the National League East Division. He has also found himself in the press box and on site for all home Atlanta Braves matchups so far this season.

Bright has been around the game of baseball since a kid and stated that after he finished playing in high school covering the sport was a way for him to stay around the game. While at FAMU Bright did several stories on FAMU’s baseball team including covering their run in the 2019 NCAA Baseball Tournament.

While at SJGC, Bright was Sports Editor of the FAMUAN and even interned with FAMU Athletics. He also worked at the School of Journalism as an IT technician and member of the SJGC Media Team. He graduated in the Summer of 2020 with his Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism.
