Florida A&M University School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (FAMU SJGC) Public Relations Professor Hsuan Huang, Ph.D., continues to garner recognition both on campus and across the United States for her contributions to higher education research.

This spring, Huang presented her research at the 2026 Eastern Educational Research Association Conference, where she shared findings on predictive AI-assisted learning among HBCU students. Her research presentation, “Learning From Mistakes: The Role of Class Discussion and Individualized Improvement Plan in Predictive AI-Assisted Learning Among HBCU Students,” focused on how effective teaching strategies help students navigate the unpredictable outcomes of AI-supported assignments, such as developing real-world social media marketing projects and preparing social media data analytics.

Through simulated real-world practice, feedback, class discussions, and individualized improvement plans, Huang demonstrated how students made progress in connecting the use of AI with critical thinking, enhancing their analytical and writing skills as future professionals.

In addition to her conference scholarship, Huang was named a 2026–27 recipient of FAMU’s Faculty Research Award Program (FRAP) grant, marking her second time receiving the honor. The award recognizes “research or creative work that solves local, regional, state, and national problems,” according to FAMU’s School of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education.

For this year’s award, Huang will collaborate with research partner Altamese Osborne, M.Ed., FAMU Developmental Research School’s Title I and District Community Schools site coordinator, to support a new initiative connecting university-level faculty research to K-12 classroom practice to improve student outcomes. The duo was selected to participate in the FAMU2 Research-Practice Partnership Hub for their dedication to building and maintaining meaningful research partnerships between faculty and staff at FAMU and FAMUDRS.

The pilot research-practice partnership initiative, led by the FAMU Provost Professor for Community Outreach, Engagement and Research Office, aims to expand opportunities for collaborative projects that directly support students, educators, leaders, and families.

“We recognize your scholarly and creative activity, your contributions to the school and community, and your capacity to stimulate additional development of quality programs at the university,” organizers wrote in a letter announcing Huang and Osborne’s award.

With support from FAMU’s provost, the award is funded by the Institutional Challenge Grant program, awarded to the Florida Center for Reading Research at Florida State University by the William T. Grant Foundation, Doris Duke Foundation, and Spencer Foundation. The program provides up to $5,000 for each research team.

Each of these recognitions highlights Huang’s commitment to advancing education and the university community through creative and innovative scholarly work.
