Florida A&M University alumnus Tyrone Law was recently named as a “Communicator to Watch” by the Orlando chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
He currently serves as a senior public relations specialist on the brand communications team at Zillow. In his role, he is responsible for identifying and developing opportunities to showcase Zillow’s stories through various channels, including media placements, events, and digital content.
“I am honored to receive the Communicator to Watch Award from PRSA Orlando, a recognition that holds special meaning for me,” Law says.
He accepted the award during PRSA Orlando’s third annual Chapter Recognition Awards Gala at the Winter Park Racquet Club on Wednesday, Nov. 8. FAMU School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (FAMU SJGC) Board of Visitor, FAMU SJGC alumna and former WKMG News 6 anchor Annetta Wilson served as the keynote speaker for the event. FAMU SJGC Board of Visitor, alumna and former Senior Director of Public Affairs and Community Relations for the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority Carolyn Fennell also attended the event.
Law holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with a focus in communications and design, which he earned in 2016. He credits his successful career to FAMU’s School of Journalism & Graphic Communication, and says professors like Dorothy Bland and Betty Grable were “instrumental to my growth.” While enrolled in FAMU SJGC, Law took several public relations and mass media courses.
“My journey in public relations began at Florida A&M University’s J-School, where I developed crucial skills in writing and communication,” Law says.
“Having practical experience via activities like serving as the men’s basketball staff writer for The Famuan and hosting an R&B show on 90.5, where I had the opportunity to interview artists like B.oB and Juicy, expanded my capabilities and ignited my passion for storytelling,” he added.
Before his role at Zillow, Law made significant contributions as the brand publicity specialist at Wyndham Destinations in Orlando, Florida, from 2018 to 2020. As a key member of the award-winning Brand Publicity team, he played a pivotal role during the launch of Wyndham Destinations and its global hospitality brands.
