Calvin Robbins Jr., technical director for KPNX 12News in Phoenix, AZ, was awarded a 2023 Rocky Mountain Southwest Emmy Award for directing the “The Valley Prepares for SBLVII Fans” morning newscast.
Robbins is a spring 2020 graduate of FAMU’s School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (FAMU SJGC) broadcast journalism program. While attending FAMU SJGC, he served as a technical director and sports producer for the student-led news broadcast, FAMU TV20.
“I was shocked that I won an Emmy for that particular show,” Robbins Jr. says. Receiving the Emmy marked his first time winning an award for his journalistic work.
Before joining the 12News team, he worked at WTXL ABC27 and the Black News Channel in Tallahassee, FL.
