FAMU School of Journalism & Graphic Communication – Jschool Journals Premiere

Tallahassee, Fl – On April 16th, the award winning Jschool Journals will host its bi-annual screening with five documentaries produced by documentary & film students and live music performances at 2:00 pm in Lee Hall Auditorium, 1601 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tallahassee, Fl.

FAMU Professor and Jschool Journals director Kenneth Jones selected the documentaries based on the student filmmakers’ work and the untold stories they are telling.

“The goal is to give students a showcase for their talents and skills. Then, show the public, the storytelling, critical thinking and great work of our students,” said Jones.

The films range in topics from “Twin Identity,?” a story of how twins facing the battle of individuality to “Digital Kindergarten,” a behind-the-scenes look into social media influencers and the relationship between them and their audiences. “The Cost to Live” focuses on creating awareness of the urban tax communities face.

Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists (FABJ) award winner Kennedy Patton collaborated with Kalei Nash on “The Cost to Live” and is excited to have her documentary premiere at the screening.

“I have thought about what I wanted to do for this documentary since last semester,” said Patton.

The screening will also include “Baby Food Unknown,” which highlights the effects toxins have in baby food and the mental development of babies, and “NIL,” which looks in-depth at collegiate NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) perspectives.

“My reasoning for doing NIL is because of the speculation. There are so many questions left unanswered, and so with this documentary, I want to answer the questions,” said filmmaker, Maya Ellison, a Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) award winner.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in question-and-answer sessions with the producers at the event.
