The North Central Florida division of the American Advertising Federation has announced the recipients of its 2024 Addy Awards. Florida A&M University (FAMU) School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (SJGC) received multiple recognitions in this year’s competition, which was expanded to include the Tallahassee and Gainesville areas.

FAMU SJGC students continued their legacy by again securing multiple prestigious awards, including a winning award for the Best in Category competition for the R&B Revival Music Fest Logo designed by Destiny Ramirez.

The awards not only highlight the students’ academic and creative successes, but according to Anosh Gill, interim division director for the Division of Graphic Communication, the recognition illustrates the students’ ability to meet and exceed the ever-changing demands of the industry.

“Our students are not only using their creative skill sets, but they are also using technology to help promote their ideas and bring them to fruition,” said Gill. “The industry is seeking students and new professionals who are using technology to further their creative efforts. These are tools they must incorporate, and our students are succeeding.”

Gill also said expanding the competition to combine the Tallahassee and Gainesville areas makes the competing more difficult.

“There is a lot of talent in both areas. While enlarging the competition adds more prestige, there is also a more committed effort to excel in the professional arena. We are witnessing that effort,” he said.

As detailed on its website, the “American Advertising Awards, known as the ADDYs, are the largest and most representative competition in the advertising industry, recognizing the most creative and effective work across various media platforms.” The North Central Florida ADDYs celebrate local talent and highlight the region’s vibrant advertising community.
