President Joe Biden praised Bottoms’ work leading the city of Atlanta from 2018-22, especially during the pandemic.

“Keisha is bright, honorable, tough, and has the integrity required to represent our Administration to the American public.”

In her new role, Bottoms will work “at the local, state, and national levels to ensure community leaders, diverse perspectives, and new voices have the opportunity to inform the work of the President in an inclusive, transparent and responsible way,” the White House said.

The former mayor is a graduate of Florida A&M University’s School of Journalism and Graphic Communication with a degree in broadcast journalism. After earning her journalism degree, Bottoms went on to earn a J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law, practice law, and serve as a magistrate judge in Atlanta.
