FAMU School of Journalism & Graphic Communication students representing the FAMU Chapter of the National Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) attended the 2025 PRSSA ICON Conference in Washington, D.C., in November. Throughout the week, students connected with PR professionals and peers from across the country, participated in impactful workshops, and gained valuable insights to bring back to our campus and community.

The FAMU PRSSA chapter was also recognized during the conference as a 2025 Star Chapter Award. The honor celebrates chapters that go above and beyond in leadership, programming, and professional development.

“We are elated,” said FAMU PRSSA faculty advisor Hsuan Huang, Ph.D., who noted that the past executive student board, including co-presidents Jarvis Coleman and Alise Sloan, Lariel Green (also the new president), Jasmine Mention, Kesley Knox, and Joshua Morain, played an integral part in the organization earning the recognition.

Representing the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Morgan Milobar, Vice President of Member Services, and Ben Castleman, Student Programs Coordinator, wrote the following congratulatory message to the chapter:

“On behalf of the PRSSA 2025–2026 International Committee and PRSSA National Headquarters, we would like to congratulate you and your chapter on receiving the 2025 Star Chapter Award. It’s thanks to your chapter’s leadership that PRSSA is able to provide outstanding programming and relationship opportunities to our members. We encourage you to continue to work toward this excellence as we move forward into a new year. Thank you for continuing to strive for the highest standards in this Society. Again, congratulations and we wish you and your Chapter the greatest success moving forward.”

Congratulations to our student members for representing FAMU with excellence and caring, and upholding the best practices of public relations.
