Florida A&M University (FAMU) is kicking off 1887 minutes of giving on Thursday, April 21 at 9:00 a.m. EST to support all its colleges and schools.

The School of Journalism and Graphic Communication seeks to raise $40,000. In honor of the 40th anniversary, the School seeks to create state-of-the-art, industry-standard broadcast studios that are used to train students to be fully prepared for today’s real-world environments. One of the foremost needs is to transition from Standard Definition to 4k formats. The entire TV infrastructure must be updated with 4k cameras, teleprompters, video switchers, video monitors, lighting and more. The investment will better position students for internships and jobs in front of and behind the camera.

Donations will also provide financial support to students who may need assistance in pursuing internships or experiential learning opportunities, which help build practical experience beyond the classroom, and will fund professional development initiatives to strengthen student success.

Donors can visit 1887strikes.com to make a gift online or text 1887Strikes14 to 71777. The fundraiser ends April 27 at 4:27 p.m. EST.
