[Veterans Day Spotlight ]
Florida A&M University’s School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (FAMU SJGC) proudly honors alumnus Quintin Gee, a U.S. Army veteran whose journey from the newsroom to the battlefield, and from the classroom to the football field, exemplifies the purpose and power that can be found in everyone’s story.
After graduating cum laude from FAMU SJGC in 2016 with a degree in broadcast journalism, Gee launched his career as a photojournalist with WJXT in Jacksonville and as a sports photographer and producer at WCTV in Tallahassee.
His calling to serve led him to the U.S. Army, where he served for nearly 6 years until 2023, sacrificing for our country as an aviation refueling specialist and public affairs sergeant. He was also deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom Sentinel. But his lens never stopped capturing the moments that matter most.

He passionately documented the stories of soldiers and the impact of the military through multimedia content for the 24th Theater Public Affairs Support Element, earning the prestigious Keith L. Ware Army Communicator of the Year Award in 2022. His achievement was not only a testament to the tools he gained as a FAMU SJGC student but also to his ability to merge technical skills with heartfelt narratives.
“It’s always great when I can combine my passions of storytelling and teaching others,” he’s shared when reflecting on his career journey.

After returning to the civilian community, Gee has continued to inspire and advocate for others. His passion for sports and mentorship led him to answer the call to become a high school life-skills educator and football coach, helping develop citizens who would make the world a better place.
He credits his career background for shaping his approach to mentorship and lifting others as he climbs, writing: “My vast work experiences have more than prepared me to be an innovative and highly effective instructor for our future leaders.”
This Veterans Day, we salute Quintin Gee—a storyteller, soldier, and servant-leader whose impact reflects the very best of FAMU SJGC.
