SJGC alumna Ashley Jackson joined the Emory DeKalb Operating Unit (DOU) as the Senior Manager of Communications in June.  She brings to the role a wealth of experience in marketing, public relations and the implementation of integrated marketing and communications campaigns. Her career has taken her all over the country to work for various news and entertainment outlets. Most recently, Ashley served DeKalb County Schools as a Marketing Communications Specialist.

“I’m really excited to do what I do best in communication and showcase my creativity,” she said.

In an introduction of Ashley to DOU leadership, Nehemie Owen, Vice President of Human Resources said, “We look forward to Ashley utilizing her knowledge of social media networks and storytelling abilities to highlight internally and externally the great care and teamwork of the DOU.”

Although she is still new to Emory, Ashley said she has already received a warm and supportive welcome. “The people are so friendly here,” she said. “They check on me, give me feedback and want to see me grow.”

Growth is something Ashley is experiencing a lot of at the moment with a new job, new apartment and also a new member of her family. She welcomed daughter Ava just three months ago.

“She’s pretty awesome,” she said. “I’m so grateful and thankful to have her. I’m only three months in, but it’s a lifetime job. She drives me. It’s not the easiest thing in the world being a mom and having a good work environment is key.  I was sure Emory was the right choice not only for me, but also for my family.”

Ashley said it was both the opportunity for career advancement and the uniquely authentic culture of Emory that made it stand out. “It sounds cliche, but Emory was at the top of my list because of the people. Family means the most to me. To have my family at home and now a work family, I couldn’t ask for more than that.”

The Saginaw, Michigan native is a proud graduate of Florida A&M University, calling the HBCU(Historically Black College and University) “the best thing in the world.” She said her faith in God is what continues to sustain her as she navigates all the recent changes in her life. Outside of the office, she said she enjoys hiking and being outdoors with Ava. She also enjoys preparing alkaline foods with no meat, gluten or yeast and dreams one day of opening a restaurant to help others transition into a healthy lifestyle.

In her new role, Ashley will begin developing the weekly e-digest as well as other communications.
